The Body is the measure of everything. I am interested in the truth and untruth of that statement. The body expressed in history and culture as object, boundary, system and the politic, form the conditions of our lives. My work focuses on these societal metaphors and explores ideas of the “healthy body” and its contradictions. Through my sculpture and installations referencing the body, I investigate the consequences of the politics of exclusion and the dehumanization of people in our society; question agency of the body’s labor, and the base systems of the body like the digestive system that reveal abundance and waste. With the use of symbolic imagery paired with figurative elements I create abstract situations that disrupt the perspective of the viewer and create a space for contemplation.
